Affordable Fashion for Every Day

Changes

Hi everyone,

As with all good things, it’s time for me to lay down Style Savvy DFW. Life has changed for the better and the new direction is the culmination of a life long dream. I have a wonderful marriage (celebrating 35 years this summer!), a new and somewhat demanding job and my music career is starting to take off. I’ll still blog on my music site – www.loriyearymusic.com and post style ideas on my Pinterest boards, so I’m not going away completely.

Your support of this blog has been incredible and I am eternally grateful. You have helped me break out of my shell and write – something I always wanted to do, but never had the courage to pursue. Thank you is not sufficient, but the words are truly heartfelt. God bless you all!

Lori

Choices

11.18.19After I pulled out all of my winter sweaters I realized I have more than enough to get through the winter. I love shopping, and if you’re like me you’ve been inundated with advertisements, emails, mail flyers and all sorts of information telling you what clothing items you MUST add to your fall/winter wardrobe. I like looking at the photos, evaluating if I really “need” and item, then going through my closet and attempting to recreate (or closely, anyway) the outfit without having to buy something. I use it as a challenge, sort of. I’m hoping to get through the fall and winter without buying much of anything. I plan to avoid unneccesary shopping (yes, even window shopping!) to keep from being tempted. We’ll see how I do…

Today’s Outfit:

Massimo turquoise cotton sweater: Target (last season)
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart (Last year, but they still have them this year!)
White Mountain black  boots: DSW (last year)
Scarf: Target

Have a great week!

Simple Addition

11.6.15a

I think we’re finally going to see some real Autumn weather. Today’s high was 71, so I went with 3/4 sleeves again just to be comfortable. Tomorrow we’ll only hit 65 so I’ll pull out the sweaters and enjoy the cool weather to its fullest. Bring on the cold!

Some of you have asked how I tie my scarves, so here are a few photos – hopefully this will help!

To start – Put the scarf around your neck:

Next, wrap both ends around your neck and bring to the front:

Loosely tie the two ends:

It’s not necessary to make a knot, just pull the ends up until it’s under the first loop. You can fluff the scarf to get your desired look:

I hope this helps. I opted not to do a video because I think I look and sound dorky!

Today’s Outfit:

Blue cotton 3/4 sleeve sweater: Old Navy (last season)
Black denim leggings: Levis Outlet (recent)
White Mountain black  boots: DSW (last year) Scarf: Target

Have a great weekend!

No apologies

10.30.15

As we say a fond hello to Autumn in Texas you will notice something. I wear jeans. A lot. Not going to lie – I pretty much wear them every day because I can. I know, the experts at “What Not to Wear” would cringe and make me throw my jeans out. Which is the reason I won’t ever be on that show (it’s awesome, and I watched it for years). I just like wearing jeans – especially in the cooler months. No apologies.

These particular jeans are my absolute favorite. The only problem is I did not take my own advice and buy two pair. Because now I can’t find them at GAP anymore. Bummer. Oh well, I found some similar ones at the Levi’s Outlet last weekend, so I think I might survive. The GAP denim leggings are the most comfortable jeans I own and they’re pretty much perfect: higher rise waist, just enough stretch and super, super comfortable. The Levi’s denim leggings have a mid-rise waist (very close to high-rise) which still reigns in that stubborn muffin top I can’t seem to get rid of. You’ll be seeing the Levi’s black denim leggings a lot in the coming months. Get ready.

Multi-Purpose

10.26.15

I bought this top at Charming Charlie about a month ago and have been looking for different ways to wear it. It’s amazing how adding a scarf can transform an outfit. And now that the weather has finally cooled off I have pulled out my boots for the first time. Looks like Fall has arrived in Texas!

The black denim leggings are a recent purchase – and I’m sure they will be a key piece of my wardrobe for this fall and winter. I would say if you’re looking for one piece to add to your wardrobe this season it would be these leggings. I found mine at the Levi’s Outlet and lucky for me they were on sale. They have a little bit higher waist and just enough stretch to be comfortable, but hold their shape all day without stretching out. Perfect combination if you ask me.

Stress Free Sunday

10.19.15

Comfortable was the order of the day. There’s just a little bit of coolness in the air, so the 3/4 sleeves were perfect for Sunday brunch on a lovely patio. The denim leggings are stretchy and comfy enough to lounge in the remainder of the day. A perfect, laid-back, read a novel kind of day. Just the way I wanted to end my weekend!

Not so fast

10.9.15

I knew I was jumping the gun when I started putting my summer clothes away for the season. In the brief moment we actually had a semi cool day I couldn’t wait to put on a lightweight sweater. And added a scarf. It was perfect for that particular day, but since then we’ve been back in the 90s and will be for a few more days. Oh Texas. You know how to frustrate a girl. On the other hand, we did get to waterski last week. First time I’ve ever skied in October. And the water was actually warm!

Finally Fall

10.7.15

This may be my favorite dress. If I could buy it in other colors I would. I found it at Ross for just $20.00. I’m not kidding. It’s fully lined and an easy care knit that washes like a dream. You’ll see it’s what I wore in the Blue Moon Martini video below. Practically perfect in every particular (yes, I’m quoting Mary Poppins).

Finally Fall

10.5.15

Hi everyone,

I honestly didn’t mean to fall off the face of the blog planet. I really didn’t. But I have to say, the break was good. The weather has finally cooled off and I find myself looking forward to creating fall outfits. Like this one. I was second guessing myself about the outfit, but after being stopped 3 times by people wanting to know where I got the knit top I knew it was okay. The fact that I purchased it at Charming Charlie the day before was perfect – because I knew it was available and affordable. Pretty nice welcome back I think!

Enough

9.18.15

Ok, I’m going to say it. I am tired of summer weather. Don’t get me wrong. I love Texas – it’s my home, after all. But I am ready for boots, sweaters and cooler weather. I know it will come eventually, but enough already. I’ve decided to at least start wearing “fall colors”, so hopefully this will be the last sleeveless bright yellow top I wear for awhile. See you next week!

Today’s Outfit:

Yellow lace tank top: CATO
Denim leggings: GAP Outlet
Comfort Plus by Predictions yellow pumps: Payless
Multi-colored bead necklace: Sample Sale

Have a lovely, healthy day!
