In the Pink

9.30.14

Sometimes you just need to wear pink. And really awesome shoes. I’m finding more and more ways to wear these great houndstooth pumps from Payless, so be prepared to see them this Fall. And Winter. And maybe even Spring.

I was so happy to see that pink is everywhere this Fall. Granted the “it pink” is a softer hue, but I like this one, and it’s one I already own so I’m wearing it. Shopping my closet…one outfit at a time.

For those of you who have visited my music website, I have my first official singing gig tomorrow! I’m so excited and will be posting some photos from the performance later this week. Dreams really do come true, friend. It’s never too late!

I love all your comments, so please keep them coming!

Rebel for Fall

9.29.14Well it looks like summer’s going to make a final appearance – at least for this week. I’m stubborn, though and wanted to wear my brown booties, so I did. I’m such a rebel. The cotton sweater was fine for the day – especially since I was thankfully inside for most of it. I’m back to layering necklaces and my latest combination is one I have tried before. I kind of like the brown florally necklace with the heavier chain. What do you think?

Gray Day

9.26.14Well it finally FEELS like Fall. The nights are nice and cool and the days are starting to cool off as well. It’s about time. So, I decided to start wearing more of my “Fall” clothes. No time like the present! This great knit top from Converse is soooo soft – and the gray is the perfect foil for my turquoise bubble necklace. While I could have worn black shoes with this outfit I couldn’t pass up another opportunity to wear my favorite turquoise heels. Some days you just need to wear bright shoes!

Olive Me

9.25.14

It’s starting to feel a little less like Summer and more like Fall in Texas. Days are getting shorter, nights are cooling off nicely and the days are sunny and not too hot. This is my favorite season, to be sure. We may not get a lot of Fall colors, but you can’t argue with the weather, that’s for sure. It’s not cool enough for a jacket in the mornings, so I went with my sleeveless shirt for what may be the last time. I love the way it floats away from my body, effectively hiding my muffin top! The olive color lets me feel like Fall even though the high today was 89. Oh well, at least it’s not 100+. I can’t complain. So I won’t.

Fashion

9.23.14
9.23.14shoes

I have a confession to make. I very rarely pay attention to the multitude of “fashion weeks” that happen every year. The clothes are usually only suitable if you’re under 25 and rail thin. And most often border on the ridiculous. I apologize, but I just had to say it. I mean, who wears those clothes, anyway? Definitely not the average woman over 40. And most definitely not me. What I do look for is the next season’s colors, interesting color and print combinations, and any trends that might work for my age and style. I take the looks as simply suggestions – not something I have to run out and buy.

The purpose of this blog has been, from the beginning, to inspire you to find ways to look at your clothes differently. To use what’s already in your closet in a new, fresh way so that you get more use out of each piece. With that said, I’m trying to be very selective in my fall clothing purchases. I want to use what I already have and add a few basic pieces so I can have a nice variety without cramming my closet full of clothes I’ll only wear once. As always, my purchases will be budget friendly and as versatile as I can make them. Stay tuned to see what makes it into my closet – and what doesn’t!

One purchase I have made is these amazing houndstooth pumps from Payless. I mean, seriously, how great are they? They comfortable and will add a great bit of fun to my fall outfits. And when Payless has their BOGO sale, well I’m a sucker for a bargain!

On Repeat

9.24.14 jewelry

You know when you find a shirt that just, well it’s just “right”? These soft knit shirts from Target are the perfect transition piece for Fall. Our weather is finally cooling down a bit, so the 3/4 sleeves were just right. It’s amazing the difference just a few changes can make to create a totally new look.

Simple Addition

9.22.14a

9.22.14b

9.22.14cToday I want to show you how I put an outfit together. And it’s really very simple. Take this great maxi dress from Walmart. I bought it at the start of the summer and wore it several times, but never with this necklace. I don’t know why it never occurred to me, but there you go. I guess I was a little afraid of the necklace competing against the pattern in the dress, but that was just pish posh. It works so well I had at least 4 people ask where I bought the necklace!

As you can see in the photos, it’s really just a easy as 1,2,3. Start with a basic dress, add a necklace, then add a colorful belt to pull in a color from the necklace. Of course a great pair of comfortable shoes always completes a look and these Aerosoles sandals are awesome! Here’s a side by side comparison. I apologize if it’s too many Lori’s for one post!

LBD

9.18.14c

Every woman needs a little black dress. I love this one because I can dress it up or down – whatever the occasion demands. With pearls and heels it goes to a client meeting. With a denim jacket and flats it would work for running errands or a casual lunch. I might even wear it over a chambray shirt with boots this fall. So many possibilities!

Do you have a little black dress? If not, I encourage you to put one on your shopping list!

Animal Pop

9.19.14

Just like pops of color, pops of leopard can take an outfit from plain to, well, WOW. Take these leopard pumps. They are probably my favorite pair of shoes right now and I think you can see why. Aren’t they fabulous? I actually had two people stop and ask where I bought them today. Don’t think that didn’t make me feel good!!

Random question: Do you need to hide a “muffin top”? It doesn’t seem to matter how much weight I lose (or gain back, hopefully briefly!), no matter how much exercise I do, I still have this nasty pudge around my middle. So, I’m always looking for ways to camouflage it. My solution? higher waisted pants, jeans and skirts and tops that float away from my torso. This new top from Target is wonderful. So wonderful, in fact, that I’ve bought several. The deep v-neck elongates my neck and the 3/4 sleeves keep me comfortable in the ever changing weather. Win. Win. Win.

Fall Forward

9.17.14c

It’s September. And the temperature here was in the 90s. Not sweltering, but warm nonetheless. So out came the pink pants – and the black booties. I just couldn’t resist. I mean it is fall, after all, so the booties are definitely back! The black sleeveless shirt from Old Navy was the perfect complement to the pink pants and it was a perfect outfit for the day. A bridge outfit for fall? Yes. Please.
