One Shirt – 5 Ways

6.23.14e

Big changes are happening this week! I start a new job today, so I thought I’d do a series this week until I figure out my new schedule. I hope that’s ok with y’all.

The olive green lace T-shirt is the featured piece this week. It’s simple, easy to wear and I think you’ll see it pairs well with lots of different pieces. My Jordache ankle skinny jeans are a great combination – comfortable for running errands or a casual dinner.

I know you’ve seen these Rampage brown wedge sandals a lot this summer, but they are some of the most comfortable shoes I own. And I’ve been so pleased with how many different outfits they can be paired with. Definitely getting my money’s worth!

What I wore:

Olive lace T-shirt: Old Navy
Jordache ankle skinny jeans: Walmart
Rampage brown wedge sandals: DSW
Gold chains: LYDesigns
Earrings: Sample Sale

Neutrality

6.27.14

6.27.14 necklace

I’ve been pleasantly surprised at our June weather. We’ve had rain and not yet experienced a day of 100 degrees. Kind of weird, but incredibly wonderful. So this tan cotton sweater was surprisingly comfortable today. Even at the end of June. In Texas. Yep, weird.

What I wore:

Tan cotton sweater: The LOFT Outlet
Merona boyfriend jeans: Target
Madden Girl Getta nude pumps: DSW
Earrings: Sample Sale
Gold chains: LYDesigns
Pearl strands: Claire’s Accessories

Color Combos

6.30.14

6.30.14 necklaces

You all know how much I love coral. I have to admit maybe going a little overboard, considering the amount of tops and shoes I have in varying shades, but I can’t help myself. It’s just a great, great color. So if I’m a little coral crazy, please excuse me. This particular sweater is light enough to wear even in summer – especially in an air conditioned office. Fortunately our Texas summer hasn’t been too awfully hot. Yet. But rest assured, it’s coming. Just like the sun comes up in the morning, it will be hot here. No doubt about it.

What I wore:

Merona coral cotton sweater: Target
Democracy olive pants: Ross
Nine West coral wedge sandals: DSW
Earrings: Sample Sale
Gold chains: LYDesigns

Frugally yours,

Lori

Same song, second verse

6.26.14a

You saw this tank top combination last week, but I wanted to show it again with shorts. And yes, white shorts. See how brave I am? I even ate pizza and drank red wine while wearing these shorts. Now that’s brave. I wore the outfit while AH and I spent an awesome day together on Sunday. We had a great late lunch at the amazing Pizzaria Testa, then walked around the wonderfully eclectic Frisco Mercantile. I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular, which meant I found something I didn’t even know I needed. Or wanted. Out of the blue (well, in the very back of the store) I found the most beautiful vintage Mouton faux fur jacket. I know, I know, it’s June. But you know how it is – when it’s right, it’s right. So, here’s a very sneak peek…

6.26.14b

I’ll be wearing this coat with everything from cocktail dresses to jeans next winter. Who says fur is just for special occasions? Now if Texas will just cooperate and give me some freezing weather. Patience. Patience. It’s still summer, after all.

What I wore:

Mimo Navy printed tank: Ross
Merona coral tank: Target
White shorts: The LOFT Outlet
Rampage brown wedge sandals: DSW
Gold earrings: Street vendor, NYC

Frugally yours,

Lori

White Jeans

6.23.14I really don’t know why I waited so long to buy white jeans. Seriously, what was I afraid of? I guess I figured they’d get dirty to easy, because any time I wear a white shirt it seems I have a close encounter with spaghetti sauce. Or red wine. So white jeans just seemed an unwise choice for me. I’m so glad I finally got over my phobia and bought these Jordache white skinnies. They. Are. Awesome. They fit just right and work perfectly with so many tops I already have. Take this navy printed tank, for instance. I’ve hesitated wearing it because of the whole issue with my bra straps (I can’t stand for them to show), but when I paired it with a coral tank that problem was solved. And the Rampage brown wedge sandals? Well you’ve seen them enough to know how I feel about them.

What I wore:

Mimo Navy printed tank: Ross
Merona coral tank: Target
Jordache white ankle skinny jeans: Walmart
Rampage brown wedge sandals: DSW
Gold chains: LYDesigns

Frugally yours,

Lori

Easy Does It

6.20.14

6.20.14 jewelry

I can honestly say this never gets easier. As much as I try to set out my clothes the night before, invariably I change my mind in the morning. I have the best intentions, but either one piece doesn’t look right or my hair refuses to cooperate, or I had a poor night’s sleep – any excuse will do. I am indecisive. Maybe I need to drink coffee before entering my closet, but I don’t think caffeine (or lack of) is the issue. It’s not even writing the blog that causes this indecision. I was like this way before the blog. Can anyone else relate?

So, today’s outfit is version 2.0. First had a white sweater (which was boring) and small jewelry. I like this version much, much better. The awesome khaki pants (The LOFT Outlet) are very comfortable and the tank (from the sadly closing Coldwater Creek) is wonderful. The sweater (Target) works great in an air conditioned office so I was in great shape all day.

What I wore:

Blue cotton/poly tank: Coldwater Creek
Curvy bootcut khaki pants: The LOFT Outlet
Merona coral sweater: Target
Rampage brown wedge sandals: DSW
Statement necklace: Bauble Bar
Gold chains: LYDesigns

Frugally yours,

Lori

Pretty in Pink

6.19.14

6.19.14 shoes

Today’s outfit features my favorite pink pants. Why do I love them so you ask? Because they’re bright and happy and I feel very brave when I wear them. There was a time not too long ago I would not have dared wear anything so bright – especially on my lower half! My self-confidence was extremely low and I was more interested in hiding than bringing attention to myself. Not so today. I am happier, healthier and generally feel better than I have in, well, years. Writing this blog has given me such joy – and a renewed sense of purpose. So thank you, dear friends for coming back day after day – and for indulging me as I endeavor to create outfits on a very limited budget.

Some interesting changes are coming soon – stay tuned!
What I wore:
Pink skinny pants: Macy’s
Blue cotton sweater: The LOFT Outlet
Madden Girl Getta nude pumps: DSW
Bubble Necklace: J Crew Factory Outlet
White flower necklace: CATO
Scarf: Sam Moon Trading

Frugally yours,

Lori

Lesson Learned

6.18.14

6.18.14a

After yesterday’s post I realized something. You really do read the blog! I’ve never had so much feedback and it was great! I love that you were so honest, because you just confirmed what I already knew: the outfit just didn’t work. On several levels. Seriously, I almost didn’t post it because I felt the same way, but I wanted y’all to see that I have days where I miss the mark. Lots of them, in fact. There have been times I’ve photographed an outfit and exclaimed “oh, heck no” after seeing it and promptly changed clothes. Just being honest, friends.

I hope I’ve redeemed myself with today’s outfit. It’s a bit of a repeat (you can see the first one here), but I changed the jeans and jewelry and left off the sweater. Of course it features my favorite coral color (and awesome Nine West sandals!) and Jordache jeans. Gotta love pieces that work so well together.

Again, THANK YOU so much for all your comments and suggestions! I can tell you the black skirt has been moved to my fall/winter collection and will be featured with boots once the weather cools off. If it ever does. This is, after all, Texas.

What I wore:

Grey and coral tank top: Charming Charlie
Jordache ankle skinny jeans: Walmart
Nine West Coral Sandals: DSW
Silver necklace: LYDesigns
Silver hoop earrings: Charming Charlie

Not So Sure

6.16.14a

Ok, so I bought a couple of midi skirts at Stein Mart recently and I have to be honest. I’m not sure how I feel about the length. I almost didn’t post this photo, but I’d like to get some feedback. I can’t decide if it’s the length, the shoes or the outfit in general. Feel free to weigh in – love it or hate it? Better yet, would you wear it?

What I wore:

Cable and Gauge faux wrap top:Stein Mart (You can find it here!)
Black knit skirt: Stein Mart
Kelly & Katie black shoes: DSW
Connections Necklace: Park Lane Jewelry (You can find it here)

Frugally yours,

Lori
