Stripe Day

4.30.14

4.30.14 necklace

I wore this to church on Sunday and seriously, someone must have sent out a memo for people to wear stripes! There were at least 5 other women wearing some sort of black and white striped outfit – kind of crazy! One outfit in particular made me very happy. The lovely Ann Parrot was wearing an outfit I suggested a couple of months ago – it’s so fun when friends let me style them! Ann had purchased a great black and white striped dress from Target and asked me how she should wear it. I immediately suggested pops of color in a belt and shoes – and she definitely nailed the look! Scroll down a bit for the photo and I think you’ll agree, she looks adorable!

What I wore:

Black and white striped jersey cardigan: Ross
Mossimo black ankle pants: Target
Merona black v-neck T-shirt: Target
Coral patent wedge sandals: Payless Shoe Source
Necklace/earrings: Sam Moon

Someone told me I’d taken my outfits to a whole different level today. I’ll take that as a compliment. I’ve noticed the longer I write this blog, the more I’m getting outside my personal style “box”. I’m looking at clothes differently, taking more chances with how I wear things, not always taking the easiest way. And I’m having more fun than I’ve ever had! Thank you for being such a great audience. Thank you for your encouragement, comments and questions. I honestly love hearing from you and appreciate your indulging me on a daily basis. I plan to keep writing as long as you keep reading!

A note about the sandals: I love these sandals SO MUCH. They are not only cute, they’re very comfortable.  I just checked DSW.com and – oh my – they have them in black. I’m in trouble…

What I wore:

Pink 3/4 sleeve cotton sweater: Costco
Mossimo blue/green ankle pants: Target
Rampage Brown wedge sandals: DSW
Turquoise necklace/earrings: Sam Moon

Spring Fever

4.28.14b

4.28.14a

4.28.14 necklaces

The day I wore this striped sweater to work, there were at least 6 other people wearing striped shirts. I guess stripes are going to be big this season! I got this sweater on super clearance at New York & Co. recently and I’m so glad I did. It’s a lightweight cotton knit that will be a great layering piece.

I’m so glad it’s finally warm enough to pack away all of my winter clothes! I purged a lot of clothes this past weekend and reevaluated what needed to stay in my closet. It feels good to have everything organized. I’ll talk more about closet organization soon, so stay tuned!

What I wore:

Coral striped cotton sweater: New York & Co.
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Aerosoles brown wedge sandals: DSW

4.25.13

4.25.14 blazer

I mentioned earlier this week that I was going to wear more dresses, so here you go! I recently hit a great sale at the New York & Co. outlet and found this amazing little dress for just $15! So, what do I do when I find a great bargain like that? I buy multiples, of course! I loved this navy blue, but then the purple and turquoise caught my eye. I couldn’t decide, so I took all three home. Now I’ll for sure be wearing dresses this summer! I wanted to show you how easy it is to change a look by just adding a blazer, and since the navy and coral combination is everywhere this season out came my H&M blazer. I could have chosen some coral shoes, but decided to go with my favorite Kelly and Kate nude pumps. Simply classic.

What I wore:

Navy blue knit dress: New York & Co.
Coral knit blazer: H&M
Kelly and Kate nude pumps: DSW
Gold necklaces: LYDesigns

Brownie Points

4.24.14

4.24.14 necklaces

When I bought this printed top two years ago I wasn’t sure how I was going to wear it. And to be honest, it hung in my closet for way too long. It was one of those random purchases (It’s cute, so why not?) from Ross that I liked when I bought it, but wasn’t too sure when I got it home. I’m so glad I kept it! Now I’m looking for more ways to wear it this summer. Live and learn…

What I wore:

Valerie Bertinelli tie front top: Ross
Brown 3/4 sleeve blazer: Dress Barn
Jordache ankle skinny jeans: Walmart
Comfort Plus by Predictions nude pumps: Payless
Jewelry: LYDesigns

Dressing the Part

4.22.14

I wore this dress for Easter Sunday and I can’t wait to wear it again! It’s comfortable and makes me wonder why I don’t wear dresses more often. I mean, what’s easier than zipping up a great dress, adding some jewelry and walking out the door? Not much. Plus the fact that it’s by Tahari (one of my favorite designers) and I found it at my local ½ Off ½ store. You just might be seeing me in more dresses this summer…

What I wore:

Tahari blue dress: ½ Off ½
Kelly and Kate nude pumps: DSW
Pearl Necklace: Sample Sale

Spring!

4.23.14

It’s finally, officially spring here in Texas. I’m pretty sure we won’t have another cold snap, so I’m safe to pack away my heavy sweaters. Thank goodness! It’s one of my favorite seasons in Texas – cool mornings and evenings, warm afternoons. Perfect for sitting on a patio with friends. Today’s outfit was just right for the weather. The sweater is a great lightweight gray tunic that paired nicely with my ankle skinny jeans. The scarf added some much needed color and the shoes? Well you know how colorful shoes just make my happy…

What I wore:

Merona light gray cotton sweater: Target
Jordache ankle skinny jeans: Walmart
Scarf: Steinmart
Madden Girl turquoise pumps: DSW

Frugally yours,

Lori

Accessories

4.21.14 Gray and Pink

4.21.14 Accessories

I am a firm believer in accessories, as is evidenced by my ever growing, ever changing collection of necklaces, earrings, bracelets and scarves. Accessories are the fastest and most often the least expensive way to update an outfit.  Today’s outfit would have been very plain without the addition of the hot pink bubble necklace, polka dot scarf and printed bangle. And none of those things cost more than $10.00!! The bubble necklace was purchased several years ago at a J Crew Factory Outlet ($7.00). The scarf is from Sam Moon and I think I paid all of $3.00 for it. The bangle bracelet was an easy DIY: recycled plastic bangle, ribbon and some glue. Seriously, so easy.

What I wore:

Converse gray sweater: Target
Merona hot pink tank: Target
Merona boyfriend jeans: Target
Xhileration gray ballet flats: Target
Hot Pink Bubble necklace: J Crew Factory Outlet
Polka Dot scarf: Sam Moon
Ribbon bangle bracelet: LYDesigns

Lofty Style

4.19.14 khakis and blue sweater

4.19.14 necklace

After a long search I finally found some great khaki slacks a few months ago. Where did I find them, you may ask? Why at The LOFT Outlet, of course! You know by now how much I love outlet shopping and one of my first stops is always The LOFT. I actually worked briefly at a LOFT store a few years ago (I don’t think I made ANY money because I always had a stack of great clothes on payday 🙂 I love their clothes – I know what fits and exactly what size I need because everything is sized so consistently. And the beautiful blue cotton sweater? You guessed it – I found it at a LOFT store on a visit to Salt Lake City two years ago. In fact, I’ll be visiting New York City next month and I can just about guarantee a stop at that location while I’m there. I’m a LOFT fan!

What I wore:

Blue cotton sweater: The LOFT
Curvy khaki slacks: The LOFT Outlet
Aerosoles brown sandals: DSW
Pearl strands: Claire’s Accessories
Gold chain: LYDesigns

Lori

My take on things

4..17.14 Inspiration collage
I’ve received some great feedback on my previous inspiration posts, so here’s another one for your viewing pleasure. I was talking to a friend recently and she was bemoaning the fact that she has a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. How many times have we all said that? There are days when I walk into my closet and think there’s nothing there to inspire me. That’s when I go to my Pinterest boards and spend a few minutes perusing my favorite outfits. Today’s outfit is a result of a recent episode of “closet blindness”. I bought these lovely mustard pants recently at Steinmart and was struggling with how to wear them. I did a quick search for “mustard pants outfits” (yes, I really searched it that way!) and found this great inspiration photo. Although I have a black and white striped shirt and black pumps I decided to put my personal style spin on the outfit. I’ve always loved gray and yellow together, and as you know I’m now on the hunt for how I can wear my awesome polka dot shoes. I love the way this outfit came together!

What I wore:

Gray and white striped t-shirt: H&M
Merona black blazer: Target
Attyre mustard pants: Steinmart
Nine West gray polka dot shoes: Rack Room Shoes
Gold and silver chain necklace: Coldwater Creek

Frugally yours,

Lori
