Grand Plans

1.1.15

I had such grand plans for this week. I was going to do a year-end review, post a couple of New Year’s Eve outfit ideas and still be able to take a day or two off to be with family. Then I felt a cold coming on and WHAM…I’ve little to no energy for two days. I’m hoping tomorrow is better, but it’s looking like any plans for New Year’s Eve partying has been short-circuited. Oh well, I can ring in the new year by laying on the couch and nursing my cold. There’s always next year.

Have a lovely holiday!

Double Down

12.28.14

I decided to do a little denim/denim combo today. I don’t normally, but the chambray shirt and lighter wash jeans looked nice together so I figured, why not? I’ve hesitated to put a collared shirt under a turtleneck sweater – I was afraid the shirt collar would look wonky. What I discovered is that the weight of the sweater actually holds the collar down and smooth. Live and learn. No matter what our age, we can always learn something new!

On a side note – I was in Walmart this weekend and saw my favorite Jordache Jeans are back in stock. You can also find them online. I’m hoping to see these great jeans in other colors this Spring. Hope springs eternal, doesn’t it?

Have a lovely holiday!

What I wore:
Chambray shirt: Forever 21
White Stag black turtleneck sweater: Walmart
Jordache skinny jeans: Walmart
Bandolino black boots: DSW

Frugally yours,

Lori

Plans

12.29.14I had to get dressed in a hurry today (my alarm didn’t go off!) so I threw on the first things that I could find. I can’t say I planned this outfit, but it turned out ok. It helps when you have pieces in your closet that work and play well together. Kind of like kindergarten. I’ve always been a fan of yellow and red and the brown sweater was the perfect neutral for both of them. I love it when a non-plan comes together…

What I wore:

Brown sweater: Old Navy
Mossimo tank top: Target
White Mountain brown boots: DSW
Scarf: Target

Have a lovely day!

Frugally yours,

Lori

Whatchacallit

12.24.14
It’s getting cooler here – with a few warm days thrown in to keep us perpetually off balance. Layering is key with Texas weather, and some days I don’t need a coat except for early in the morning. That’s why I love this sweater/poncho thingy. I still haven’t figured out exactly what to call it, but I love it just the same. The knit is light enough that it makes layering easy and just right for for our mild winter days. I hope you have a great weekend – I’m eagerly anticipating a very exciting 2015, how about you??

What I wore:
Mossimo Turtleneck Sweater: Target
Light brown sweater: Sample Sale
Jordache skinny jeans: Walmart
Merona brown boots: Target
Scarf: NYC street vendor

Have a lovely day!

Frugally yours,

Lori

Merry Christmas!

12.26.14

This outfit was actually my second option for Christmas day. I may end up wearing it for a family gathering later in the weekend because it’s comfortable as well. Today will be busy, but relaxing – which I know sounds weird, but it’s a fun kind of busy!

Have a lovely holiday!

What I wore:
White Stag Turtleneck sweater: Walmart
White Stag black vest: Walmart
Mossimo oxblood ankle pants: Target
Bandolino black boots: DSW

Frugally yours,

Lori

The Big Day

12.25.14

I actually wore this last week, but it was so comfy I decided it would be perfect for Christmas day. Our Christmas day is usually very laid back – with not small children in the house we sleep in, have a late breakfast and open our gifts once the family arrives about 11:00AM. Pretty nice! Then we start cooking our holiday dinner – usually a theme of some sort with new recipes our menus have ranged from Indian (Chicken Tikka Masala complete with Mango Lassis and fresh Naan), Cornish Hens, Asian, Italian, Mexican, and this year, French. It’s always fun and a great family adventure.

I wish you and yours a wonderful Christmas – thank you for continuing to read the blog every day!

Have a lovely day!

What I wore:
Red turtleneck sweater: Old Navy
White oxford shirt: Old Navy
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Bandolino black boots: DSW

Frugally yours,

Lori

Just So

12.23.14

I love this vest. It’s warm and luxurious and so soft people want to touch it all the time. It can be a little awkward, but hey, I can’t really blame them. I bought the vest and scarf on our trip to NYC – both from street vendors. Gotta love that about New York City!

I think I’ve finally finished my Christmas shopping. Thank goodness I never had to set foot in a mall this year. That’s a whole lot of crazy I was only to happy to avoid! Tomorrow I’ll post what I’m wearing for Christmas day – stay tuned!

Have a lovely day!

What I wore:
White turtleneck sweater: Target
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Nine West booties: DSW
Fleece hooded vest: Nanako Clothes (www.nanakoclothes.com)
Scarf: NYC Street Vendor

Frugally yours,

Lori

Plaid Crazy

12.22.14

I’ve been looking for a plaid scarf and finally found one. At Target. On. Sale. I’ll be wearing this little gem a lot over the next few months, so get ready. I just love the color – red – and the fact that it also has blue, green and gold in the pattern. So many possibilities – I can’t wait to get started creating outfits!

Have a lovely day!

What I wore:
Grey cotton sweater: Old Navy
Gold pants: Stein Mart
Anne Klein Grey booties: DSW
Scarf: Target

Pattern Mix

11.22.14

I love stripes. I also love mixing patterns, which is the reason for this outfit. I tried a couple of different scarves before settling on this one. I think one of the important things to consider in pattern mixing is proportion. I chose this scarf because it’s a little lighter than the others – not so much material around my neck. I love the look. What do you think?

Have a lovely day!

What I wore:
Striped sweater: H&M
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Dirty Laundry Black boots: DSW
Scarf: Target

Lori

Making Music

12.18.14

I wore this outfit for a gig on last weekend. I love the knitted vest – it’s such a great way to spice up a plain outfit! There are tons of these vests available right now in just about every length you can imagine. I had a great time singing Christmas tunes with the awesome JazzMark trio. There’s not much that makes me happier than singing – except maybe writing for YOU every day!

Have a lovely day!

What I wore:
Merona black turtleneck top: Target
Sweater vest: Sample Sale
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Black leather boots: White House/Black Market
Necklaces: LYDesigns
Earrings: Sample Sale

Lori
