Break it Down

8.29.14

I mentioned earlier this week that it’s been awhile since I’ve been shopping. Well, earlier this week I broke down and went to Old Navy. I’ve been holding off, but frankly I needed a couple things to get me through until the weather cools off some. I mean, I love being able to wear jeans to work, but a good pair of khaki pants is just essential. I found these new Pixie skinny ankle pants and fell in love. Well, serious like, anyway. They are comfortable and have just enough stretch. The shirt was another purchase and I may have to get it in some other colors – especially since they’re on sale right now! I love that it’s loose without being voluminous and just floats nicely away from my body. I could definitely see it under a sweater, blazer or denim jacket all the way through fall. Especially in Texas. Transitions. Transitions.

I love all your comments, so please keep them coming!

What I wore

8.28.14

I am happy today! I was about to whine about the weather being hot, but no. I choose to be happy. I work in an air conditioned office, drive an air conditioned car and live in a wonderfully air conditioned house. I am blessed. I have clothes to wear, food to eat and a family that loves me. I am blessed.

You’ll likely see this denim skirt a lot this fall because it will go with so many sweaters and tops. And boots. I bought it at Old Navy a couple of months ago and it’s one of the nicest ones I’ve found. It’s just the right length (not too short!) and the material is soft without being shapeless. I just discovered they have them in grey and black on the website – I just might have to order one. Or two.

I love all your comments, so please keep them coming!

Just Done

8.27.14

That’s it. I’m done with summer. I mean, seriously, it’s almost September and I’m ready to be done with my summer clothes. I can’t wear shorts to work so jeans are my go to foundation for my outfits. I guess I shouldn’t complain – I should just be thankful I don’t have to really dress up, but… Ok, I’m done whining. It will be cooler soon and then I’ll be anxious for spring. Well, maybe not.

I do love these Jordache denim leggings. They are so comfortable and stretch without every stretching out of shape. Must be some kind of magic fabric. Thankfully you can still find them at Walmart.com. The link is below!

Easy Does It

8.26.14

Well, Monday. It was hot. It was humid. And I needed to be as cool as humanly possible. So I opted for a skirt and cotton t-shirt. Yes, the shirt has sleeves, but it was still plenty cool. Enough, anyway.

Some of you have asked if I could add links to websites so you can find things easier. I would love to, but in all honesty I shop so rarely that by the time I wear something it’s probably not even available anymore. That’s what I get for shopping for bargains at Outlets! What I’d love for you to take away is IDEAS – ways to use with things you might already have in your closet. As I move into fall, I’ll try to include as many links as I can for what I do purchase, I promise!

I love all your comments, so please keep them coming!

Fall Forward

8.25.14

I’m still pushing for fall. It was 100 degrees today, but I knew it would cool in church so out came this great light grey cotton sweater. It was a little warm (ok, HOT) when I took the photo, but it was definitely worth it. Come on, Fall. I’m ready for you!!!

Impatience

8.22.14This outfit actually put me in a cool weather mood. I’ll probably pair the shirt and jeans with black boots and a black leather jacket as soon as the temperature dips below 70 for any period of time. I’m that ready for fall.

You might have noticed my fingernails (I’m weird like that, I notice people’s fingernails) – I’ve been trying the Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques and I really like them! They’re easy to apply and seem to stay on fairly well. I’ve had this set on for a week now and they haven’t lifted or even looked like they wanted to peel off. Which is more than I can say for normal polish. This particular design is called “Shoot for the Moon” and you can find them here on Amazon.com. I’ve bought them at Walgreens, but once I discovered they’re less expensive on Amazon, I’ve been ordering them from there. Even when I have to pay shipping it works out to same me at least a little money. And it’s definitely cheaper than a salon manicure! It’s nearly impossible to get a photo of both my hands, so here’s a shot of just one hand:

I have a couple of other colors and designs I’m going to try, so I’ll try to snap a photo when I make the change.

Done with Summer

8.21.14

I have a confession to make. I am tired of summer. I have put myself on a shopping fast and haven’t bought clothes since July. Except for one pair of shoes, I haven’t bought anything. Which is very unusual for me. I seem to have lost my shopping appetite – or something. I’m even debating about whether to buy any fall clothes for a while. I still have some great pieces from last year, so I think I’ll wait until I pull out my fall things before I go shopping. Now that’s frugal, no? I mean, if my whole premise for this blog is shopping my closet I think that makes sense. Now we’ll see how long my fashion “fast” lasts…

In Love with Lace

8.20.14

I realized after the fact that I wore lacey tank tops two days in a row…can you tell I’m a little in love with them? This one especially, even though when I bought it I wasn’t exactly sure how much I would wear it. Turns out my solid knit tank collection is the perfect foil for the loveliness that is this cream colored tank. It makes it even more versatile than I first thought – which is always a nice bonus.

Crocheted tank: Charming Charlie

Lacy Day

8.19.14This was definitely a great day for this lacy tank. It was hot and a little humid (after the wonderful rain yesterday) so going sleeveless was my best option. And I love how the sandals almost echo the lace in the top – kind of like they were meant to be together. Gotta love it when that happens.

Dressing Up

8.18.14

AH and I continued our anniversary celebrations on the actual day – August 15th. We did sort a “progressive” dinner: appetizer at a new restaurant called Table 13, dinner at our favorite little hole in the wall Indian restaurant (Taj Majal), dessert at Chocolate Secrets (yum!), and a nightcap at the Balcony Club to listen to some jazz. All in all a wonderful evening. This is first time I’ve worn this dress with my awesome purple shoes and I was thrilled when I realized the colors were an almost perfect match. Just a little bit of “kismet” for the evening.

Would you please take a minute to check out (and listen to the songs!) my new music page: http://www.reverbnation.com/loriyeary? Thanks!!!

What I wore:

Floral dress: Ross
Moda purple shoes: DSW
Gold earrings: NYC street vendor
