Too Warm Days

5.30.14b
5.30.14 accessories
What to say about today’s outfit? Well, the lace tank is cool and comfortable which is important on hot summer days. Granted it’s only May, but the AC went out at our house over the weekend and getting dressed this morning meant pretty much standing in front of a fan. If I could have worn shorts to work, believe me I would have. Hopefully the AC will get repaired before the weekend. I’m just glad it’s not going to be over 85 between now and when the required part comes in. And super thankful for ceiling fans.

What I wore:

White lace tank: The LOFT
Merona Boyfriend jeans: Target
Rampage brown wedge sandals: DSW
White statement necklace: CATO
Brown statement necklace: Sample Sale
Embassy watch: Steinmart
Gold bracelets and rings: Family gifts

Frugally yours,

Lori

Oops!

5.29.14
5.29.14 accessories

Oops. This is a first. I actually forgot to post a blog until just now! My apologies. AH and I did a Crossfit workout last night and I guess I was too fried to even think about writing. At least I took pictures of my outfit, so here goes…

Sometimes you just have to go with what’s familiar. The beige cotton sweater in today’s outfit is so, so comfy I don’t want to take it off! I bought it several years ago at a LOFT store in downtown Salt Lake City and it’s definitely one of my favorites. It’s such a great neutral color that I can wear it with just about any pair of pants in my closet. Just doesn’t get much better than that! The pops of coral in the earrings and sandals keep it from being boring and I got compliments all day long. I guess it worked.

What I wore:

Beige cotton sweater: The LOFT
Blue Broken In Straight Khakis: GAP
Nine West coral wedge sandals: DSW
Statement earrings: Charming Charlie
Embassy watch: Steinmart
Gold chain necklace and bracelet: LYDesigns
Note: the gold chain bracelet is actually a necklace wrapped three times around my wrist.

Frugally yours,

Lori

Tank You

5.28.14b
Tank tops are some of the most versatile tops known to womankind. They’re great to keep you cool in the summer, but can be layered under a sweater, denim jacket or blazer for a more professional look. This ruffled tank from Target is one of my favorite go to tops for all those reasons. The print is beautiful and the knit soft and comfortable. I bought several of the tanks last summer and I’m so glad I did. I’m hoping to see some more at Target soon!

The necklace is my first purchase from Bauble Bar and I love it! I’ll definitely be adding more great pieces to collection very soon.

What I wore:

Merona printed ruffle tank: Target
Denizen stretch bootcut jeans: Target
American Eagle coral wedge sandals: Payless Shoe Source
Leafy Gem Bib necklace: Bauble Bar

Frugally yours,

Lori

About Hair

Have you ever had one of those days? You second guess everything, change outfits multiple times and finally throw up your hands, say “forget it” and give up? Today was one of those days. I don’t have them very often, thank goodness, but they do happen. Those are the days I just don’t want to take a photo. Or write about my outfit. So today we’re going to talk about hair. Mine, in particular.

Shortly after AH and I got married I cut my hair. It had been beautifully long, frosted and layered for the wedding, but I was tired of it and decided to declare my independence and chop it off. From there it was just so easy to keep cutting, so I went short and stayed short for years. My mom was from the old school of “women over 30 shouldn’t wear their hair long” and I bought into the lie. Silly me. Looking back at pictures I groan and wonder what I was thinking. I mean, I have pretty good hair – thick, healthy and fairly easy to work with. Why, oh why did I cut it short?

Fast forward to two years ago. I went on a diet, lost 30 pounds and decided to let my hair grow. At the age of 53. It took a loooonnng time, and I worked with a stylist to create interim styles so I wouldn’t go crazy and yell “CHOP IT OFF!” But I did it. And I’m so glad! Everyone says I look younger (I’ll take that!), It’s really easy to work with (ponytails, braids and messy buns, anyone?) and best of all? AH loves it! I think he secretly preferred my hair long, but was just too sweet to say anything. Love. That. Man.

So today, I offer some before and after hairstyle photos. Oh, and you’ll see a good example of my weight loss adventure as well. Feel free to comment!

A Stripe Affair

I’m not sure what is with me and stripes these days, but I can’t seem to get enough of them! I found today’s sleeveless black and white striped top on my recent trip to NYC. Believe it or not, it’s the only piece of clothing I purchased while in the city! I know – but there just wasn’t a lot of clothes shopping time with all the sightseeing we were trying to do. Next time, for sure!

I’m a huge fan of White House/Black Market so it’s no surprise that my one clothing purchase in New York came from their SoHo store. Everyone was so helpful and friendly – which what I’ve found in every WHBM store I’ve ever visited. They definitely know how to treat their customers! One of my favorite stores happens to be in Branson, Missouri – yes, Branson. Every time I visit it feels like I’m reconnecting with old friends. With really great taste in clothes. What’s better than that?

What I wore:

Black and White striped top: White House/Black Market
Blue ankle pants: GAP
Nine West black sandals: DSW
Connections Necklace: Park Lane Jewelry (you can find it here: Connections-necklace)

Frugally yours,

Lori

Accessories

5.24.14

5.24.14 necklace closeup

I recently connected with Cindy Lee, a representative of Park Lane Jewelry and  was asked to review some of their pieces. This necklace was my first choice – and I think it will be one of my new wardrobe staples. I’ve been impressed with the classic designs and quality of their jewelry – I’m looking forward to pairing this necklace with multiple outfits!

The dress is one of my favorite purchases from last summer. The multiple colors make it a great piece to wear throughout spring and summer. Pairing it with a white blazer, denim jacket or coral sweater means I can change the look even more with different shoes and accessories. Purple and coral are great colors this season – have you tried this combination yet?

What I wore:

Calvin Klein multicolor tank dress: Ross
Purple cardigan sweater: The LOFT Outlet
Nine West coral wedge sandals: DSW
So Cool! Necklace: Park Lane Jewelry (you can find it here: SoCoolNecklace)

Frugally yours,

Lori

Casual Options

5.23.14a

5.23.14 jewelry

Today’s outfit was inspired by my friend, Mrs. P. She was wearing the shorts at our church picnic on Sunday and I knew I needed to find a pair for myself! I went to two different Target locations before locating my size, but it was definitely worth the search. The shorts are just the right length and have the right amount of stretch to be extremely comfortable. I’ll wear them a lot this summer, so it was a no brainer purchase. And for $20.00? Sometimes you just have to.

What I wore:

Merona coral sweater: Target
Merona coral tank top: Target
Denizen stretch denim shorts: Target
American Eagle coral wedges: Payless
Gold drop earrings: Street vendor, NYC
Gold necklaces: LYDesigns

Frugally yours,

Lori

Coral Loveliness

5.23.14

5.22.14 jewelry

Coral loveliness.  That’s how someone described my outfit today. The coral stripe in the tank top, the sandals mixed with the grey and silver and the coral earrings, well, they just work. At least it did for me. After all, fashion is really a matter of personal taste and style. It’s why I love blogging – I get to play with different combinations of colors, patterns and fabrics. You get to tell me if you like it or not!

What I wore:

Grey and coral tank top: Charming Charlie
Merona grey sweater: Target
Denizen stretch boot cut jeans: Target
Nine West Coral Sandals: DSW
Silver necklace: Target
Coral earrings: LYDesigns

Frugally yours,

Lori

Picnic Wear

5.22.14a

5.22.14There was a picnic after church on Sunday, and since I didn’t want to wear shorts, this maxi dress was just the ticket. I added a denim jacket during church, but dress was cool and comfortable for the day outside, and even onto dinner on a patio later in the day. The hat was great for the picnic because it shielded my face from the sun – I’d gotten a little sunburn while waterskiing on Friday and didn’t need any more! Have you added a maxi dress to your wardrobe yet? There are SO many options right now – I’ve seen them at Walmart, Target, Ross, Stein Mart – so many choices, so little time…

What I wore:

Faded Glory knit maxi dress: Walmart
Madden Girl black sandals: DSW (You can find them here)
Silver Hoop Earrings: Charming Charlie
Purple Belt: Target
Straw Hat: Target

Frugally yours,

Lori

Saturday Schmaturday

5.21.14

This past Saturday was way too busy. Lots of errands to run, a Jamberry party, more errands, then company for dinner. Whew! The outfit was perfect for the day – comfortable but nice enough to take me all the way through dinner. I’m a huge fan of tank tops with wider straps – it means much less adjusting and tugging on the bra straps. Know what I mean?

What I wore:

Blue tank: Coldwater Creek
White denim skirt: The LOFT
B.O.C. gold flower sandals: DSW
Silver Hoop Earrings: Charming Charlie

Frugally yours,

Lori
