Sale-a-bration

12.28.13

If you’ve been reading the blog for any time at all, you know how much I love a good sale. And an after Christmas sale? Well, that’s just too good to pass up! I ventured to my local Outlet Mall last Friday in search of some end of season finds and was not disappointed. With 40-70% off on pretty much everything it was a frugalista’s paradise!

The green sweater in today’s outfit was a must have. I love the boat neck, and the 3/4 sleeves are the perfect compliment for the wider neckline. I could also see wearing it with a black pencil skirt and boots for a little dressier look. Or maybe black or even brown slacks. Lots of options!

What I wore:
Green sweater: New York and Company
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Leopard print pumps: Payless

Lori

Gray Day

12.27.13 **If you want to get a better look, just click on the photo!

I’m becoming more and more a fan of grey as a neutral. It’s versatile and pretty – in a soft, understated kind of way. It can be paired with pretty much any bright color, but today I chose my favorite animal print scarf in blues and purples. Do you wear grey?

What I wore:
Mossimo grey sweater: Target
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Animal print scarf: Target
Black leather flat boots: DSW

Collages

Black boot collage

Since I’m taking a couple of days off for the holidays (i.e. not putting on makeup or getting out of my sweats…) I thought I’d revisit a few of my favorite outfits. You’ve all seen my black boots (from White House/Black Market) by now, but somehow putting the photos side by side gives me a new perspective. It’s also good for me to review what I’ve shown and inspires me to look for new ways to wear things in my closet. I’m going to be cleaning out my closet over the next few days and purging things I haven’t worn in awhile. It will be interesting to see what stays and what goes…

Have a great weekend everyone!

Holidays

IMG_2612

Christmas is my favorite time of year! I love the holidays and all the festivities. We took my sweet mom-in-love to a Christmas Eve service and enjoyed candlelight and carols in a small chapel. Such a sweet time!

I wore my favorite green skinny cropped pants and black sweater with my black boots – not too “Christmasy”, but festive enough. I could also have worn my brown riding boots – and you just might see that combination in the not too distant future…

What I wore:
Merona black sweater: Target
Mossimo green cropped skinny pants: Target
Black leather boots: White House/Black Market
Animal print scarf: Target

Nice and easy does it

20131223-194410.jpg
Nice and easy is what I needed for today. Lots of last minute errands to run, Christmas gifts to buy, groceries to get, and seemingly not enough hours in my day. The sweater is the second one I bought from Walmart and I’m so glad I went ahead and purchased the brown one! It makes getting dressed easy when you have pieces that work well with several pieces in my closet. I can imagine this sweater with oxblood pants and brown riding boots, blue pants and brown pumps and definitely my favorite denim leggings. I might even pair it with a denim skirt, brown tights and boots. Lots of fun options!

Today’s outfit:
Faded Glory brown sweater: Walmart
Denizon boot cut jeans: Target
Brown boots: DSW
Gold chains: Lori Yeary Designs

Stripey

20131222-130330.jpg
I’ve been looking for an excuse to wear this striped t-shirt dress. It’s been a little too cold lately, but I was determined on Friday, so out it came. I’m becoming a huge fan of black and brown together, so instead of going with the safety of black boots, I decided to mix it up with brown tights and boots. The brown belt pulls more brown up top, and the cropped denim jacket helps define my waist. All in all, I was pleased with the look!

Today’s outfit:
Striped t-shirt dress: H&M
Cropped denim jacket: TJ Maxx
Brown tights: Target
Bandolino brown riding boots: DSW
Brown leather belt: Target

Plain and simple

20131219-233833.jpg

Keeping it simple and real today. I only had to get out for a little while today and honestly didn’t want to get dressed up! I went with my ultra comfortable denim leggings and a sweater/shirt combo the lovely Mrs. K suggest a couple of months ago. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but I like it now! The shirt is one I wear mainly in the summer, but with the sweater it made the perfect second layer for a fairly warm Texas winter day. The black combat boots? Well I got compliments from young and old alike all day. I guess that means it looked ok, right?

Today’s outfit:
Merona striped sweater (old): Target
Coral shirt: Cato
Jordache denim leggings: Walmart
Black combat boots: DSW

Wait Five Minutes

11.20.13

There’s a saying here in Texas: If you don’t like the weather just wait 5 minutes. It will change. Never truer that today! Last week we were freezing (literally) and today I actually debated on whether I really needed a jacket! I still opted for a sweater because my office has been really cold, and I was grateful for the jacket too. It will top 65 degrees today so I’ll be just fine, I think!

I love, love, love the colors in this sweater! I had a hard time deciding what color tank top to put under it: pink or orange?? I went with orange just because it makes me happy. The pearls dress the whole thing up just a tad and since the weather is warmer I chose brown pumps instead my normal boots. Overall a good look – what do you think???

Today’s outfit:

Merona argyle sweater: Target
Merona orange tank: Target
Jordache light-washed denim leggings: Walmart.com
Comfort Plus brown pumps: Payless
Pearl strands: Claire’s
Earrings and necklace: Sample Sale

Frugally yours,

Lori

Super cold days

12.17.13b

I love cozy sweaters! It was frigidly cold here last week with ice everywhere so I really needed layers to keep me warm. The off-white sweater is the perfect foil for a chambray shirt and with the leopard scarf? Well it added just a little sass to what could have been a plain, boring outfit.

Some of you have been asking about the Jordache denim leggings. I know for a fact they are difficult to find in my area Walmart stores, but I did find them online. These are some of the most comfortable leggings I’ve found! They have a higher rise, and the material has just enough stretch without being baggy by the end of the day. I do have to cuff mine since they’re a tad long for my 5’4″ frame. I’ll probably have them hemmed if I can ever stop wearing them long enough! Pattern Play

13.17.13

Sassy pants. Fancy britches. This is how my daughters described my new skinny jeans from Old Navy. And I have to agree. They are a little bit fancy. And a lot sassy! I usually shy away from printed trousers, but these caught my eye and I couldn’t resist. The navy material is a great background for the brown pattern. Not too “in your face” or “hey look at me!” I’m still playing with different ways to wear them, so stay tuned for more ideas in the next few weeks.

Here’s a closeup of the fabric:

Tan cotton sweater: Old Navy
Blue pashmina: I have no idea where I got it…
