Orange You Glad?

6.29.15

So I may have gone a little crazy with this dress. I now own 4 of them. Yes, 4. Black & white striped, black, blue and now “Flaming Tulip”. I know, I went a little overboard, but when a dress is this great, I can’t help myself. It’s cool, comfortable and really cute (and on sale when I bought them!). I know not many people can wear this color, and honestly when I was first told it was my “star” color I was devastated. Until I started wearing it. Now I love it! So be prepared to see it. A lot.

Today’s Outfit:

Flaming Tulip knit swing dress: Old Navy
Franco Sarto wedge sandals: DSW
Necklace: LY Designs

**Some of you have asked about LYDesigns jewelry. It’s actually Lori Yeary Designs. A few years ago I had a jewelry design business, but I mainly just make jewelry for my own amusement/amazement now. I do some custom work for weddings, but it’s not really a “business” anymore. If you are interested in a custom piece, let me know and we’ll chat. I might just come out of retirement!

Have a lovely, healthy day!

Custom Classics

7.1.15
I
very rarely order clothing online. I have a thing about trying clothes on before I buy them. I usually try an item on in the store, then go online to see if it’s on sale before I buy (especially at Old Navy, GAP, etc.). With Eshakti I will make an exception. I learned about this amazing online store from a local TV personality and although I was skeptical I wanted to give it a try. You see, at Eshakti you can order clothes custom made to your specific measurements (and you can customize even further by adding/eliminating sleeves, adjusting hems, etc.). And it doesn’t cost a fortune. What’s not to love? For example – this dress was made to my measurements, without sleeves. And it fits perfectly! One issue I usually have with button front blouses and dresses is the dreaded “bust gap”. You know, the straining of buttons at the bustline? It’s a pain, but Eshakti has solved my problem. Maybe forever. As you can see, there’s no gapping at my bustline. In fact, it’s smooth all the way across. Oh, and I mention this dress has pockets? Oh, and another thing – I received my custom dress in under 10 days. I just might be in love.

Today’s Outfit:

Chambray Dress: Eshakti (Eshakti.com and you can find the dress here ChambrayDress)
Green dotted wedge sandals: Payless Shoe Source (2 years ago)
Belt: Target (Recent)
Earrings: Charming Charlie (Last season)

Basics

6.23.15

I recently purchased these great ankle length black pants from Target. My other pair sadly had an unfortunate encounter with the dryer and shrunk beyond all hope of stretching them back out. I had put off buying new ones because I thought I wouldn’t need them in the summer. Silly me. I had three shows last weekend and had to have black pants. I’d bought these Mossimo pants before so I knew they would fit, so I ran into Target on Thursday afternoon and snapped up a pair. I love it when I can walk out of a store, take the tags off an item and wear it right away. And so I did.

Today’s Outfit:

Mossimo black ankle pants: Target
Black and white knit top: CATO
Hot Pink Comfort Plus by Predictions Pumps: Payless Shoe Source
Jewelry: LYDesigns

Twirly

6.22.15

Happy Monday! You might have noticed a change in my clothing attitude. Less jeans, more dresses. It’s partly out of self defense (it’s getting hot…) and partly because I was bored with jeans (and they’re too hot for Texas summers). Plus, dresses are just easy to wear. Just one piece of clothing to worry about and a surprising number of ways to change up a look in a hurry. I bought this dress at the NY&Co outlet last summer and really love the style. The drop waist is flattering the the flared skirt swings when I walk. I might actually have twirled a bit on my way out the door. It’s what one does in a twirly skirt. Naturally.

Today’s Outfit:

Black and white knit dress: NY&Co Outlet
Coral Comfort Plus by Predictions: Payless Shoe Source
Necklace: Sam Moon Trading
Gold hoop earrings: LYDesigns

X3

X3 DressesI wasn’t kidding when I said this was the perfect summer dress. I even went to Old Navy and bought the “Flaming Tulip” (or orange) one the other day. As you can see, this dress can work for just about any occasion/situation. Be prepared to see it a lot this summer. And I mean. A. Lot. It’s the most comfortable thing I own and even though we’ve dodged the really hot weather so far (thanks to a whole lot of rain!), I know it’s only a matter of time before the heat gets serious. Thank goodness I have my trusty knit dresses! I may not melt after all…

Today’s Outfit:

Striped, Blue and Black knit swing dresses: Old Navy
Orange sandals: Payless Shoe Source
Kelly & Katie Turquoise sandals: DSW
Coral and Turquoise Necklaces: Target
Turquoise and black necklace and earrings: LYDesigns
Gold hoop earrings: Sam Moon Trading

LBD (Little Blue Dress)

6.17.15

If there was ever a perfect summer dress, this one is it (in my humble opinion, anyway!). It’s another one of the great knit swing dresses I bought in NYC a couple of weeks ago. I searched for them in the Dallas area without any luck. Until today. Yes, Style Savvy fans, I found these dresses in Dallas area Old Navy stores today! Lucky for me, they had my size in “Flaming Tulip” or coral as I call it. AND they’re on sale for $15.00. Oh happy day, indeed.

Today’s Outfit:

Blue knit swing dress: Old Navy
Orange sandals: Payless Shoe Source
Necklace: Target
Gold hoop earrings: Sam Moon Trading

Easy Does It

6.15.15

When I want to be comfortable I tend to reach for items that are easy to wear and preferably wrinkle free. No sense looking rumpled if I don’t have to. The cotton knit tank top came from Old Navy, and it’s a great summer piece. The skirt was purchased at White House/Black Market two years ago and I was thrilled when I discovered it still fit!

I get compliments every time I wear this scarf in my hair, but honestly I wear it because it keeps my hair out of my face. The fact that is adds a bit of extra color is a bonus. I think I’ll try some other scarves this summer. might as well get some use out of the small collection I’ve acquired over the years!

Today’s Outfit:

Orange knit tank top: Old Navy (recent)
Khaki skirt: White House/Black Market (2 years ago)
B.O.C. gold sandals: DSW (2 years ago)
Necklace, earrings, bracelet and scarf: Sam Moon Trading

Color Combo

06.12.15

I love experimenting with color. It would have been easy to wear turquoise sandals with this dress. Even brown would work. But coral? Yes. I believe it works perfectly!

Knit dresses are a staple in my summer wardrobe. They’re oh so easy to wear and cool on even the hottest summer day. I’m so glad I bought these while they were on sale last summer. I may not melt after all…

Today’s Outfit:

Printed knit shift dress: New York & Co. (last summer/clearance)
Coral wedges: Payless Shoe Source (2 years ago)
Necklace: J. Crew Factory Outlet

LBD

6.10.15

I know it looks like this dress has an angled hem, but it’s just the way I’m standing! I took several photos, then finally decided it would just have to do. It’s what I get for waiting until I’m running out the door to take a photo. But I have to say I absolutely love this dress. It’s another one I bought at Old Navy in NYC and I can definitely see myself wearing it a lot this summer. It’s a little black dress that can go dressy or casual with a quick change of shoes and jewelry. And it’s cool and comfortable, so it really is a perfect dress for summer. I can see a coral necklace and my coral pumps, hot pink shoes with pearls, yellow shoes, red, silver or turquoise sandals, the mind reels with possibilities…

Today’s Outfit:

Black knit swing dress: Old Navy
Kelly and Katie turquoise wedge sandals: DSW
Necklace: Target
Silver hoop earrings: Charming Charlie

Busy Days

6.8.15

Wow. These past few days have been insane! Between musical and Carpenters Tribute rehearsals I haven’t been home much. In fact I’m writing this late Sunday night during rehearsal! I’ll be grabbing time whenever I can for the next month or so. Thanks for hanging in there with me!

It’s definitely summer here in Texas. I find myself reaching for dresses more often now, so accessories are going to be the key to keeping things fresh and interesting.

Today’s Outfit:

Purple knit shift dress: New York & Co.
Silver sandals: Payless Shoe Source
Necklaces: LYDesigns**
