A Bird in the Hand

Do you remember: seersucker pant suits, pantyhose, go go boots, rotary telephones, black and white television, hand sewn (with love, by mom) clothes, no cellphones, internet, DVDs or CDs? I do. I also remember no white shoes before Easter or after Labor Day and you never mix patterns. Oh how times have changed – and I’m SO glad!

This walk down memory lane is sponsored by CHANGE. And it’s a good thing. Take mixing patterns, for instance. It took me a little while to warm up to the idea, but now I’m a huge fan. Today’s outfit is a prime example. When I was looking for a cardigan to wear with my beloved “bird” shirt I had a couple of options. The printed cardi won hands down. But even this dynamic duo needed a little help, so what did I do? Threw on some pearls and a gold chain. Whamo, instant class. Even in jeans. Don’t you just love pearls?

And here’s the fourth pair of my Warby Parker sunglasses. These Preston Whiskey frames are really growing on me.  Have you checked out the Home Try-On program yet? If you haven’t, check out the Warby Parker Spring Collection (warbyparker/sunglasses) for yourself!

Checkers

This is a great transitional outfit – just the right thing for the cool weather we’ve been experiencing. Our weather has been so erratic lately, but I’m hopeful that warmer weather is just around the corner. I had several shoe choices – I could have gone with a black or plain nude pump or even my beloved orange flats, but I just love the buckles on these nude pumps from Kelly and Kate. You just might see this outfit again. With different shoes…

Here’s the third pair of my Warby Parker sunglasses. These Boyd Marbled Sandstone frames are so cute! Have you checked out the Home Try-On program yet? If you haven’t, check out the Warby Parker Spring Collection (warbyparker/sunglasses) for yourself!

Pretty in Pink

I don’t wear a lot of pink, except as an accent color. Today I decided on pops of pink and I really love the look. The necklace was an impulse purchase at CATO a couple of weeks ago. I wasn’t quite sure how much I’d wear it, but the price was right, so… Now I’ve got several ideas on how to style it! And you know how I love fun shoes, so when these appeared on sale at The LOFT I was toast. But I’ve worn them quite a bit already so I think it was a good purchase. Do you have a pair of fun shoes yet? There are SO many options this spring, I’ll be hard pressed not to buy at least a couple pairs before the season is over. Shoes are my kryptonite…

Here’s the second pair of my Warby Parker sunglasses. These Madison Rum frames are just the right shade of red for a fun pop of color. Have you checked out the Home Try-On program yet? If you haven’t, check out the Warby Parker Spring Collection (warbyparker/sunglasses) for yourself!

Sunnies

I just had to share this photo from a recent photo shoot with my awesome husband! I was recently contacted by Warby Parker (www.warbyparker.com) to preview their Spring Sunglass line. Honestly I hadn’t heard about Warby Parker before, but I’ve been so impressed with their products! I took advantage of their Home Try-On program and ordered 5 of my favorite styles. I loved the fact that I could try the glasses on at home and get my husband’s opinion on which ones he liked best. I could have just shown you photos of the frames, but I thought you might like to see them on an actual, real (not a model!) person. I’ll be posting my photos over the next week or so – I’d love to hear your vote for favorite frame! In the meantime, check out the new sunglasses (warbyparker/sunglasses) for yourself! You can order prescription glasses and sunglasses – or just a great pair of sunglasses. The frames are very well made and very reasonably priced – I’ll be ordering some soon.

My outfit today is a combination of new and older items – my favorite kind of collection. I’ll be wearing the checked pants quite a lot this Spring, for sure!

What I wore:

Merona coral cotton sweater: Target
Black and white checked pants: White House/Black Market
Madden Girl turquoise pumps: DSW

Gold earrings: Charming Charlie

Reilly-Whiskey sunglasses: Warby Parker (warbyparker.com)

3.25.14c

3.25.14b

2.25.14aWe’re a little photo heavy today, but I wanted to show you how easy it is to change up an outfit with just a couple of substitutions. I started out the day in outfit one – ideal for work. The no-iron white button down looks great with the polka dot cardigan, and the pearls and black pumps give it the dressy feel I wanted for the office. I was meeting a friend for a casual dinner after work and didn’t want to completely change so I opted for a few key substitutions. Switching out the light green (or blue? I can’t decide) cropped pants and black pumps for jeans and orange flats worked wonders. The orange bubble necklace added a much needed pop of color and an element of whimsy.

What I wore:

Merona polka dot sweater: Target
White no-iron button down shirt: Ross
Mossimo light green cropped pants: Target
Jordache light denim leggings: Walmart
Black pumps: Rack Room Shoes
Merona orange leather ballet flats: Target
Gold necklace: LYDesigns
Pearl strands: Claires Accessories
Pearl earrings: Sample Sale
Orange Bubble necklace: J Crew Factory Outlet
Gold earrings: LYDesigns

Old Faithful, Part Two

3.19.14a

3.19b

I should probably apologize for being boring. But upon reflection I have to admit that today’s post is really the epitome of what I’ve been writing about for the last year. Frugal Fashion. No apologizes. Yes, it is the same beige sweater I wore last week. And the week before. But what good is a piece of clothing if you can’t wear it as often as you like? Exactly my point. If you love something, for pity’s sake wear it! Just look for different ways to pair it with multiple things in your closet. I can just about guarantee the next time I wear this sweater it will be with a black pencil skirt. And maybe a red pump. Or a leopard pump. Ooh, and pearls! You just never know about me…

What I wore:

Beige sweater: The LOFT Outlet
Merona skinny boyfriend jeans: Target

Brown leather pumps: Rack Room Shoes
Gold necklace: LYDesigns
Red Necklace and earrings: Sample Sale

Blue Beauty

3.20.14

3.20.14b

Blue is one of my favorite colors. Really. I know I don’t wear a lot of it, but it really is. When I found this shirt at New York and Company (and on sale, thank you very much) I just had to have it. Then it sat in my closet for awhile only to occasionally be used under a sweater. Quite sad, really. So when I decided to dress up a bit for work (and yes, someone did ask what time my interview was!) the blue beauty came out for her first featured role. I like the camel blazer – I think it’s the perfect foil for such a beautiful shade of blue, no? And the black slacks? Well they were a recent purchase at Express. Again, on sale. Just doesn’t get much better than that.

What I wore:

Blue button shirt: New York and Company
Black Editor slacks: Express
Merona camel blazer: Target
Black leather pumps: Rack Room Shoes
Gold necklace: LYDesigns
Gold earrings: Sample Sale

Green day

3.24.14

3.24.14b

I haven’t worn these green pants in awhile, and I’m not sure why. They’re comfortable, fit well and could really be considered a neutral. In fact, I can’t think of much I couldn’t wear with them. Let the games begin. I’ll be looking for more ways to wear them in the weeks to come. Stay tuned.

What I wore:

Black and white striped tunic: H&M
Mossimo green cropped pants: Target
Kelly and Katie black shoes: DSW
Gold necklaces: LYDesigns
Green earrings and ring: Sample Sale

Lori

Old Faithful

3.21.14

3.21.14b

You can tell when I like a particular piece of clothing. Because I wear it. A lot. This sweater is one of my current favs. You’ve seen me wear it several times and I love the challenge of finding new ways to mix things up. Like today’s “bird” shirt. It’s actually a sleeveless button up I bought last summer at Target and is the perfect pairing with this sweater. I like the sleeveless aspect because there’s not bunchiness under the sleeves and it gives me a smoother silhouette. And we all want that, right?

What I wore:

Beige sweater: The LOFT Outlet
Jordache cropped jeans: Walmart
Merona bird print sleeveless shirt: Target
Merona orange leather ballet flats: Target
Gold necklace: LYDesigns
Gold earrings: Charming Charlie

Dotted Swiss

3.18.14

3.18.14 accessories

Does anyone besides me remember “Dotted Swiss” material? It was material that had a very small, raised white dot. I had a couple of dresses (lovingly made by my mom) when I was a kid and I think that’s where my love of polka dots started. I remember one Easter dress in particular that was purple with tiny white dots. I think I even had a white had with matching purple ribbon. I looked pretty awesome, I’m sure.

But I digress. The dotted shirt in today’s outfit came from The LOFT and was purchased last Spring. I wasn’t sure if dots would last more than one season, but I was pleasantly surprised to see A LOT of them in the 2014 Spring and Summer lines. Color me happy!

The layered necklaces? Well I just love experimenting with accessory layering so there you go. One necklace just didn’t seem to be enough, so why not make it three? I say yes, please.

What I wore:

Black and white polka dot shirt: The LOFT
Jordache dark skinny ankle jeans: Walmart
Comfort Plus by Predictions red pumps: Payless
Red Statement necklace: Sample Sale
Gold necklace and bracelet: LYDesigns
Pearl strand: Claire’s Accessories
Gold door knocker earrings: Charming Charlie
