Affordable Fashion for Every Day

Archive for the month “September, 2013”

These checked pants are so fun! I wore this outfit to a Ladies Breakfast over the weekend and got so many compliments. I love the yellow and black necklaces together, and the yellow shoes – well you know they make me all kinds of happy. It was very comfortable and easy to wear through the whole day. I just might have to try wearing the pants with boots and a chunky sweater this fall.

Would you wear printed pants?

Today’s outfit:
Black and white checked pants: White House Black Market
Black wrap knit top: Ann Taylor (old)
Statement necklaces: Sample Sale
Comfort Plus yellow pumps: Payless

Frugally yours,

Blue day

Can I just say I was very tempted to wear my boots today? Then I remembered I live in Texas and it will probably be in the 80s. So, no boots today. Color me sad.

I did reach for my colored jeans today. I love the vibrant blue of these comfortable lovelies. There were a multitude of other colors I could have paired with them, but I was feeling more neutral today. Besides, I really wanted to wear my new pearl bubble necklace!

Today’s outfit:
Cotton striped knit top: Old Navy
Style & Co. blue skinny cropped pants: Macy’s
Comfort Plus by Predictions nude pumps: Payless
Pearl bubble necklace: Sample Sale

Animal Print

I’m seeing animal print everywhere! I thought maybe after last season it would start to fade away, but it’s definitely still going strong. Scarves, shoes, handbags, shirts – you name it, you can probably find it in some form of animal print.

I’ve had the shirt in today’s outfit for a while, but hesitated to wear it until it was “officially” fall. I probably could have worn it before, but it was nice to have something new to add to the mix this week. How do you wear animal prints??

Today’s outfit:

Animal print knit top: Ross
Merona black boyfriend cardigan: Target
Denizen bootcut jeans: Target
Comfort Plus by Predictions dark red pumps: Payless
Necklace and earrings: Sam Moon

Frugally yours,

Colored pants and jeans are everywhere right now. Do you have some yet? If not you should! For the longest time I assumed pants (and skirts for that matter) should always be neutral: black, grey, navy, brown, etc. Pretty boring, right? Then I discovered colors! Dark red, emerald green, mint green pants have all made their way into my closet. Slowly but surely I branched out and now I love colored pants! Then came the prints. It started with a pair of printed shorts from The LOFT Outlet (which my BF thought were a little too crazy – now she likes them!). Then I found a pair of black and white checked pants that were just too fun (not to mention on sale) to pass up.

Now I look for new ways to wear my colored pants, like today. I wore a similar outfit a few weeks ago, but today I added the black and white striped shirt to the mix. What do you think?

Today’s outfit:

Black blazer: J Crew Outlet
Merona skinny cropped pants: Target
Black and white striped ¾ sleeve shirt: H&M
Comfort Plus by Predictions black pumps: Payless
Silver necklace: Sam Moon

Frugally yours,

Finally Fall

It’s finally fall! Not only officially on the calendar, but the weather in Dallas has finally turned cooler. I actually did a happy dance when I walked outside this morning! In honor of the gloriously cooler weather I’m breaking out the first of my fall clothes. The brown blazer in today’s outfit is a recent purchase from Dress Barn and I love it! It’s got a little bit of texture in the material and the gathered sleeves give it a little more casual look. You’ll be seeing it a lot this fall. I almost – almost pulled out my boots this morning, but since we’re supposed to get up to 85 degrees today I thought I’d save them for later. Patience. Patience. Patience.

This weather makes me think about falling leaves, warm sweaters and yummy soups. What is your favorite thing about fall?

Today’s outfit:
Brown Blazer: Dress Barn

Merona jeans: Target
Merona animal print shoes: Target
Brown and maroon statement necklace: Sample Sale
Gold hoop earrings: Sample Sale

Frugally yours,

Dotty. That’s how I’d describe both my mood and outfit for today. I was a huge klutz this morning and spilled part of my smoothie as I walked out the door. Fortunately it just fell on my jeans and shoes – after changing clothes three times before I was satisfied with my outfit I really didn’t want to have to change again!
I seem to be in a wardrobe black hole these days. It’s still too hot for fall clothes, but my summer clothes are looking really boring right now. It can be difficult to find clothes for that in between season – or am I the only one experiencing this?? The dotted shirt in today’s outfit is a sort of compromise – and I’ll probably wear it well into fall. I can see pairing it with skinny jeans, black boots and either my black or off white blazer. It would also work with a denim skirt or black pencil skirt. I love the possibilities!

Frugally yours,

Honesty is the best policy

Ok, it’s honesty time here at Style Savvy DFW. I walked into my closet this morning and literally could not find. Anything. To. Wear. Everything looked awful on the hangar and even worse on my body. It took probably 3 changes of clothes and multiple outfit combinations to decide what to wear. So how did I finally decide? I picked the shoes I wanted to wear and literally worked from the bottom up.
I haven’t worn these shoes in a long time (and I don’t think, ever on the blog) – so long, in fact they actually had dust on them. It’s a shame, too because they are so darn cute. But there they were, abandoned and unloved in the top pockets of my shoe hanger. Just waiting for me to put them on and let them do what shoes do best. Make my day a little brighter. Ok, so it’s not shoes that really make me happy but they definitely help! I have several pairs of “happy shoes” and these little beauties definitely qualify.

This no-iron shirt from Coldwater Creek also makes me happy. Because it really is NO IRON. It washes and dries like a dream and makes my life better in the process. I hate feeling rumpled and wrinkled at the end of a long day so anything that stays nice and crisp gets an A+ in my book!

Today’s outfit:
No-iron green three-quarter sleeve shirt: Coldwater Creek
Merona khaki skinny cropped pants: Target
Nine West patterned pumps: DSW
Multi-color statement necklace: Suzy Q
Gold earrings: Charming Charlie

Frugally yours,

Chambray love

Oh Chambray, how I love you. The versatility of a good chambray shirt should not be underestimated! You can dress it up or down, wear it as a light jacket or simply by itself with a great pair of skinny pants or pencil skirt. You can layer it over a dress or under a sweater. I mean, how many other pieces of clothing are this versatile? Ok, I’m sure there are others, but I love my chambray shirt for all those reasons and more.

Today’s outfit was inspired by a photo I saw on Pinterest. I love the simplicity of it and the way just adding my yellow pumps added just the right pop of color. If I had bright blue shoes I would have worn them, but alas there are none in my closet. For now.

Do you own a chambray shirt? How do you wear it?

Today’s outfit:
Chambray shirt: Forever 21
Merona black skinny cropped pants: Target
Comfort Plus by Predictions yellow pumps: Payless
Yellow statement necklace: CATO
Orange bubble necklace: J Crew Outlet

Frugally yours,

Favorite things

I’m constantly looking for new ways to wear my favorite things and today is no exception. I’ve worn this beige cotton knit top with everything from boyfriend jeans to skinnies, but today is the first time I’ve worn it with these skinny cropped pants from Macy’s. I found these ultra-soft pants on the clearance rack a couple of months ago and couldn’t resist buying them. I mean, for $10 who would? I love the higher rise waist and the color is one I can wear year round. You’ll definitely see them with boots throughout the fall and winter!

What’s your favorite thing to wear? Do you look for new ways to wear it, or do you stick with one or two outfits? I’d love to hear from you!

Today’s outfit:
Style & Co. dark teal skinny cropped pants: Macy’s
Beige cotton knit sweater: The LOFT
Comfort Plus by Predictions nude pumps: Payless
Turquoise bubble necklace: Charming Charlie
Pearl strands: Claire’s Accessories

Frugally yours,

Coldwater Contest Winner!!

I’m thrilled to announce the winner of the Coldwater Creek Wardrobe Challenge! Beth D. submitted five great outfits and will receive a free pair of jeans from Coldwater Creek. Beth has been a faithful reader of the blog for a while and had this to say in her submission:

This is such a fun challenge! For my main piece of clothing, I chose a black pencil skirt. It’ll also be easy for me to switch out the skirt for a pair of black pants for 5 more looks.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve recently lost a lot of weight. I still would like to lose a little more weight so I have been trying to fill out my wardrobe with items that I’ve purchased at thrift stores. That way I won’t be too sad to get rid of things when they get too big.
The photos:
