Minty Fresh

Minty fresh is the way I would describe today’s outfit. I’ve been looking for more ways to wear my favorite striped t-shirt and decided to try something way, way different. I got my inspiration from another blog I follow – J’s Everyday Fashion (http://www.bloglovin.com) and decided to try it out. I wasn’t in the mood for a sweater (since it’s about 100 degrees today), so I opted for layered necklaces for my accessories. I pulled in a little more black with the sandals to bring it all together. This is a great example of “shopping your closet” – have your shopped your closet lately?

Today’s Outfit:
Striped t-shirt: H&M
Merona Mint green skinny pants: Target
Aerosole black wedge sandals: DSW
Pearl strands: Claire’s
Mint Green bubble necklace: J Crew Outlet
Leather bracelet: Sam Moon

Frugally yours,
Lori

**I apologize for the poor quality of today’s photo. If you have any self photo tips, please let me know! I want to make these photos the best they can be, but my photography skills are seriously lacking!

Layers

I know I talked about this recently, but today’s outfit is another great example of accessory layering. I recently stopped by my local CATO store and was so pleased when I found the exact necklace in the inspiration photo! I figured this late in the season they’d all be gone, but there it was. I immediately went home and tried the white flowered necklace with several others and found lots of potential combinations. Be watching for it to pop up in future posts!

I’ve worn today’s sweater before, but today I paired it with skinny jeans. I love how the necklaces give what could be an average outfit a little extra oomph. Is oomph even a word? I’m not sure, but it fits!

Today’s outfit:
Beige tunic sweater: Ann Taylor LOFT
Levi’s Skinny Jeans: Urban Outfitters
Aerosoles Brown Wedge Sandals: DSW
White Flowered necklace: CATO
Yellow Statement necklace: CATO
Orange Bubble Necklace: J Crew Outlet

Frugally yours,
Lori

Short Story

7.27.13b

When I bought these shorts my best friend wasn’t sure about them. She thought they were a little too bright – and I agreed with her. But that’s what drew me to them! I’ve worn them a couple of times, but this particular outfit drew compliments from a LOT of people. A couple of teen-aged girls, three different store clerks and a good friend all said they loved the outfit, so I guess I can deem it a success! The outfit was comfortable enough to wear all day and kept me nice and cool on a really hot July day.

How are you keeping cool this summer? Do you wear shorts or dresses more in the summer? I’d love to hear from you!

Today’s outfit:
Orange printed shorts: The LOFT Outlet
Merona knit button shirt: Target
Aerosoles Brown Wedge Sandals: DSW
Necklace: Sam Moon (sammoon.com)

Lori

Change it up

It. Is. Hot. Ok, I know it’s summer, but it really is hot this week! We had such a nice, mild Spring and early summer (even into early July!) but now it’s getting serious. We’ll be over 100 degrees today and then “cool off” to the low 90’s this weekend. Gotta love weatherman speak!

In order to stay cool outside, but not freeze in my super air conditioned office I decided on a skirt today. Jeans just didn’t seem right today so out came the khaki pencil skirt! A reader recently asked how to wear a pencil skirt without it looking “sexy librarian” and I think I’ve found the solution. Pair a more casual top with a pencil skirt and casual sandals. It’s often the accessories that push an outfit into a different category. This same khaki skirt would look totally different with a fitted sweater and pumps. If fact, if you really want to change the attitude of a pencil skirt why not wear it with a casual t-shirt or Chambray shirt? Just for grins I’ve added a few of photo examples from past outfits so you can see what I mean.

Today’s Outfit:
Merona button shirt: Target
Merona khaki pencil skirt: Target
Aerosole brown wedge sandals: DSW

Blue Day

7.24.13

Layering has been an interesting trend this year – jewelry layering. I’ve been seeing lots of necklace and bracelet layering and have tried a few combinations myself. I wasn’t sure about today’s combo until I got to work. I debated about taking off the pearls, but I decided to go with it and I’m so glad I did! The first person I saw loved the look! It’s always gratifying and affirming when someone compliments the way you look – it makes all the effort of getting dressed worthwhile.

Have you ventured into jewelry layering yet?

Turquoise bubble necklace: Charming Charlie

P.S. Some of you have asked for close-ups of accessories – so here you go!

Black and White part 2

7.23.13

I rarely do the same color scheme two days in a row, but today was an exception. I couldn’t resist wearing my new yellow shoes, so black and white it is!

One of my favorite things about today’s blouse is the fact that it was FREE. A friend of mine gave it to me at church Sunday and I was so excited! I never refuse hand-me-downs, especially when they’re this cute. It’s just like buying from a consignment store, only free!

Today’s outfit:
Black and white cotton top: The LOFT
Merona crop jeans: Target
Comfort Plus yellow pumps: Payless
Yellow necklace: CATO

Frugally yours,
Lori

Black and White

7.21.13

I love black and white, but sometimes it can get a little boring. That’s why I love to add pops of color! I’ve received tons of compliments on the necklace combination in today’s outfit, but I honestly wondered if it was a bit over the top. Guess not. Even guys have commented on how much they like the colors – truly the mark of a successful outfit! The top is cool and comfortable, and since Texas has finally decided to have summer, sleeveless is the way to go when the heat tops 98 degrees. I added a white sweater when I was inside to ward off the chill of AC, but I’m eternally grateful I live in 2013 and not 1913! Thank goodness for air conditioning!!

Today’s outfit:
Black and White knit tunic top: CATO
Levi’s Skinny jeans: Urban Outfitters
Hot Pink Bubble necklace: J Crew Outlet
Yellow Statement necklace: CATO
Black Sandals: DSW

Frugally yours,
Lori

I’m doing something a little different today. After a recent Closet Edit session, a client and faithful blog follower sent me a photo of an outfit she put together. She did such a great job “shopping her closet” I asked if I could feature her today!

Leslie is an amazing woman, wife and entrepreneur. She and her husband own a business so she’s always on the go and needs to look polished and professional. After showing her several ways to wear the great skirt in today’s outfit she started experimenting with other items and accessories in her closet. I love the blue and brown together, but the statement necklace is what really pulls everything together. Great job, Leslie!

If you have an outfit question or suggestion, please let me know. I love hearing from you!

Leslie’s outfit:
Blue knit shirt: Target
Brown print skirt:Kohl’s
Statement necklace: Charming Charlie

Devon 7.10.13

I have a lovely guest stylist today – my youngest daughter, Devon! She came to work the other day and looked so cute I had to take a photo. The outfit shows how easy it is to use a dress as a skirt – just pop a shirt and belt over it and presto! A great outfit is born!

Devon’s outfit:
Converse shirt: Target
Knit maxi dress: Charming Charlie
Brown basketweave shoes: Payless Shoe Source
Belt: Borrowed from another outfit!

Lori

Today’s outfit features a great shirt I found at Target. It’s the same style as the denim shirt – in fact it’s the same style as the olive green shirt I featured earlier – are you sensing a pattern here? When I find a style I like I tend to buy multiples – hey, if it works, it works! I’m including photos from some previous posts so you can see the different ways I’ve worn these great shirts. They’re simple, easy to wear and so comfortable!

Today’s outfit:
Merona floral shirt: Target
Khaki skirt: The LOFT
Franco Sarto Brown and tan sandals: DSW
Brown belt: Kohl’s

Frugally yours,
Lori
