Style Quotient

10.31.13

I’ve been on the hunt for a camel colored blazer for a while now, but didn’t want to spend a ton of money. The story of my life! I hate paying full price, but I fully expected to have to if I was to find a well made, lined blazer. Not so! I found the one in today’s outfit at TARGET!!! I didn’t wait for it to go on sale, but since it was only $40 I figured I could splurge… It is very well made and lined – which makes it pretty much perfect in my book. I’ve seen several great outfit ideas on Pinterest (you can check out my blazer board here: http://www.pinterest.com/stylesavvydfw/blazer-love/) and will be featuring this little beauty on future posts!

A good blazer can up the style quotient of any outfit and take jeans to a dressier level in an instant. Do you wear blazers? I’d love to see photos of your blazer outfits! Email me at stylesavvydfw@gmail.com!

Busy Days

11.1.13c

Busy days require a certain type of outfit. It must be cute (naturally), easy to wear and require very little fuss. I usually reach for jeans on days like this and today was no exception. I knew I would be running around a lot so I definitely wanted to be comfortable. It was a little cloudy and grey outside so color was a definite must as well. I didn’t want to mess with a coat so layering was also a consideration. Who knew putting together an outfit could take so much thought?? Whew!

I opted for the green shirt because didn’t need to be ironed (thanks, Coldwater Creek for created a true “no-iron” shirt!!) and the grey sweater is cotton so it breathes. The black short boots used to be comfortable, but after wearing them for a few hours I realized they are now too big and thus made my feet hurt. Bummer. Lesson learned.

How do you dress for a busy day?

Today’s outfit:
Green ¾ sleeved green shirt: Coldwater Creek
Converse grey cotton sweater: Target
Merona boot cut jeans: Target
Nine West black boots: DSW

Dress for success

10.29.13

Dresses are a great staple for any wardrobe. I love the ease of throwing on a dress – no fussing with separates or worrying if everything “goes” together. Just add shoes or boots, earrings and run out to greet your day! Today’s dress is a little “Mad Men” inspired – an homage to the 60’s in an updated kind of way. I don’t normally wear dresses to work, but this one was just begging to be worn today so I obliged. And I’m glad I did! It’s comfortable, naturally (I tend to live by the Gilda Radner school of fashion – “I base most of my fashion taste on what doesn’t itch”!) and doesn’t require any fussing or straightening during a very busy day. The fact that it looks pretty good is just a bonus!

Black and white dress: White House Black Market
Black leather boots: White House Black Market
Black tights: Target

Better late than never

10.28.13

I’m so sorry!!! Last week was so crazy I forgot to post today’s blog until just now…

I’m not usually a fan of “tribal” prints, but when I saw this sweater recently at Ross I knew it needed to make it’s way into my closet. It’s warm and cozy, but not too heavy so it’s perfect for Texas’ fall weather. The mustard colored turtleneck is actually short sleeved, so it was the perfect weight for a 70 degree day. Have you added any tribal prints to your fall wardrobe?

Today’s outfit:
Tribal print sweater: Ross
Mustard color short sleeved turtleneck top: CATO
Levi’s skinny jeans: Kohl’s
Black boots: DSW
Necklaces: Coldwater Creek

Frugally yours,
Lori

Nice and Easy

10.25.13

Nice and easy. That’s my preferred style of dressing. Not fussy, easy to wear and not requiring me to constantly adjust, fix or tug at anything. That’s why today’s outfit works for me. And why I’m constantly looking for more ways to put similar outfits together every day.

What’s your style?

Today’s outfit:
Mossimo oxblood skinny cropped pants: Target
Merona bird print shirt: Target
Tan sweater: Forever 21
Brown boots: DSW
Hot pink bubble necklace: J Crew Outlet

Frugally yours,

Lori

Leading a double life…

10.23.13

The skirt in today’s outfit actually leads a double life. It’s also a strapless dress! I bought it several years ago at a friends Cabi sale and have worn it literally year round. Definitely a good investment. I love it with boots – cowboy boots like today, dressier brown boots or my comfortable flat brown boots – they all work equally well. The key to a versatile wardrobe is finding “out of the box” ways to wear your clothes. Have you ventured out of your fashion box lately??

Today’s outfit:
Denim shirt: Ross
Printed knit dress/skirt: Cabi Fashions
Brown cowboy boots: Justin Boot Outlet, Justin, Texas
Brown belt: Kohl’s
Blue cord bracelet: 3Strands (http://www.3strandsglobal.com)

Frugally yours,

Lori

Green with envy

10.24.13a

I’ve been seeing “army” jackets everywhere and really never thought I’d want one. Then I ran across this one at Old Navy and thought “what the heck” and bought it. And I love it! It’s a great layering piece for our fickle Texas weather – I can throw it on as I’m walking out the door. It works well over a t-shirt or sweater and is very comfortable to wear. Paired with my trusty black and white striped shirt and a bright scarf and I sailed through my busy day without one thought to my outfit. Gotta love that.

Do you have a favorite casual jacket?

Today’s outfit:
Army Jacket: Old Navy
Striped t-shirt: H&M
Merona boot cut jeans: Target
Yellow Scarf: Target
Dirty Laundry black boots: DSW

Back to basics

10.21.13

A good black blazer (in my opinion) is one of the best foundational pieces for any wardrobe. You can dress it up or down, wear it with skirts, jeans, slacks and any number of tops to create an almost endless number of outfits. I wear mine all the time. And the best part is I bought it at a J Crew warehouse sale last year. For $25!

Today’s outfit works so well because all the pieces compliment one another. The neutral grey t-shirt, denim skirt and black blazer make the orange scarf pop and bring everything together. I could just as easily have paired it with any number of other scarves, changed shoes and created an entirely different look. Love that!

Today’s outfit:
Black blazer: J Crew Outlet
Grey t-shirt: GAP Outlet
Denim skirt: Land’s End
Orange scarf: Sam Moon
Black boots: DSW

Frugally yours,

Lori

Transitions

10.22.13

I did a photo shoot recently and thought I’d share some of the photos this week. I challenged myself to take just a few pieces and create as many outfits as possible – in about and hour and a half! This outfit is a great example of taking a summer piece and using it into fall. Striped “shirt” is actually a t-shirt dress/tunic I wore with sandals this summer. By pairing it with the denim skirt, tights, boots and adding a scarf I now have a great transitional outfit. You can also take a summer dress, pair it with a denim jacket or sweater and boots for another great combination.

Have you used a summer piece in your fall wardrobe yet?

Today’s outfit:
Striped t-shirt tunic/dress: H&M
Denim skirt: Land’s End
Black boots: DSW
Red scarf: Target

Frugally yours,
Lori

Signature Style

10.18.13

Do you have one “signature” piece of clothing? A pair of earrings you wear with everything? A favorite pair of shoes? A fabulous scarf? An heirloom brooch? I think today’s sweater may qualify as my signature piece. It’s certainly one of my favorites. And one that brings tons of compliments every time I wear it. I refer to it as my “coat of many colors”! I love finding different ways to wear it, so be prepared to see it a lot this fall/winter. I actually had two people offer to buy it right off my body – I guess it’s a success!

Today’s outfit:

Multi-color knit sweater: Sample Sale
Green short sleeved turtleneck: CATO
Levi’s mid-rise skinny jeans: Kohl’s
Brown Boots: DSW
Necklace: Sam Moon

Frugally yours,

Lori
